LC Connector

Posted by 3 November, 2017 Comments Off on LC Connector

LC is an abbreviation for Lucent Connector and refers to one of the small fiber optic connectors that are commonly used in network applications. It is one of the form factor connectors and is about half the dimension of the ST. The LC connector makes use of a ferrule that measures 1.25 mm. This is one of the connectors that offers great performance in connecting fiber optics cables and is widely used in singlemode.

It was developed by Lucent Technologies and has some similarities with the SC connector but instead of a 2.5 mm ferrule it has one that measures 1.25 mm. It was developed to be used in TelCo environments. The ferrule used in the LC connector is made using ceramic

Toslink

Posted by 3 November, 2017 Comments Off on Toslink

Toslink (Toshiba-Link) was initially developed by Toshiba for its CD players. However, the use of this optical fiber connection system is currently not limited to CDs only but can be used to connect satellite dish receivers, DVD players and other equipment. It is a data transmission system that uses optical signals instead of the usual electrical signals thus its more reliable. Toslink has 4 major components: the transmission module that enables conversion of the electrical signals to optical signals. However, the receiving module reconverts the optical signals into electrical signals.

The other components are optical fiber cables that act like the physical transmission lines while the optical connectors enhance the connection of the receiving and transmission modules to the optical fiber cable.
