Ufone Sucks Big Time – Poor Service Quality and Pathetic Customer Service

Being a loyal customer, I hate to write this but they made me do so. For the past few weeks, Ufone service quality has been pathetic disappointing. I am sure most of you (Ufone users) must be facing the issues I am. Sometimes I just get disconnected from the rest of the world. Can not send messages, can not dial or receive calls.

Today, same happened and I thought of contacting the Customer Support Center. Call connected and was put on hold. I waited for 20 minutes and then the call was disconnected. What the hell??? Why they are charging Rs. 1/- per call to customer center, claiming that this is to provide better customer service but it seems that its a new way of robbery by Telecom Companies. I called again and now 15 minutes so far and no signs of Customer Service Representative. That’s coward. Just let them pick the phone and I will make them regret.
I am porting out. Yes, I can not bear this anymore. Tried to compromise because of the brand association but when brand doesn’t care, why should I? Just help me find a better network and if you are Ufone users, write your comments about the service.

Edit: Dialed called third time and finally someone picked up and told me that there is some maintenance happening thats why we are facing issues. I asked “Who on earth would intimate customers?” and asked about the last complaint (a week ago) I lodged, he was speechless. I am surely porting out now!

I was very happy that PTCL took the initiative after WorldCall to introduce Wirless Broadband in USB Adapters in Pakistan but it was obvious that other companies will also enter into the competition. And now here is Wi-Tribe, a wireless broadband service provider. Although the charges of Wi-Tribe are high and limited packages (less speed) as compared to World Call and PTCL but they are giving a money back guarantee of 7 days to unsatisfied customers.

There is no unlimited package like PTCL and WorldCall wireless braodbands. Instead there is Data limited per month which makes Wi-Tribe expensive. But I think we will give Wi-Tribe some time. One thing, that will help them is Customer Support Service. PTCL Customer Support Service is not at all satisfactory. If you encounter an issue at night, no body is there to pick your call. A better customer service brings better and long lasting customers.

Before I go to the details of Wi-Tribe packages, let me just discuss a little Advertisement strategies. Wi-Tribe is focusing on heavy advertisement. You can see a lot of hoardings, banners, bill boards etc. etc. and I just loved their teaser advertisement where the only thing is written is – Online with no line.

Ufone launches Child Healthcare Initiative [Press Release]

Islamabad – July 07, 2009: State Minister for Health, Chaudhry Muhammad Afzal Sindhu inaugurated the revamped Children Ward and Children OPD of the FGSH (PolyClinic), a pilot project of Ufone’s Child Healthcare initiative here today.

In major hospitals nationwide, Ufone, one of the leading telecom operators of Pakistan will entirely revamp Children Ward and Children OPD to mitigate the sufferings of the child patients while making their stay at hospitals more hygienic and comfortable. As pilot project, Ufone has revamped the entire Children Ward and the Children OPD of the Federal Government Services Hospital, Islamabad commonly known as Polyclinic.

The revamping at Children Ward and OPD includes complete renovation of the internal and external areas with new beds, flooring, paint, seating, air conditioners, heaters, area beautification, lighting, Plasma TVs, help desks, windows, curtains, nursing cabinets and ventilation.

The inauguration ceremony held here was attended by the President & CEO Ufone Abdul Aziz Khan and the Executive Director Polyclinic Dr. Shaukat Kiani.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Abdul Aziz, President & CEO Ufone said, “For countries like Pakistan, it is very important that the corporate sector supports the government in this gigantic task of providing basic services to all corners of the country. And equally important is to invest and upgrade existing health facilities.” Mr. Aziz concluded with offering the special gratitude to the management of the hospital for their cooperation throughout the revamping process.

Commenting on the Ufone initiative, Chaudhry Muhammad Afzal Sindhu, Minister of State for Health shared, “This nationwide initiative by Ufone is laudable. We are very much aware of the fact that our targets can only be achieved with the Public-private partnerships. We appreciate that the private entities of our country like Ufone are highly aware of their corporate social responsibilities and are contributing well. The Children Ward and Children OPD of the FGSH is an eminent sample of their conviction of helping the public sector and that too in the area that is important and delicate”.

After the formal speeches, chief guest Mr. Sindhu presented certificates of appreciation to all those who have made this project a success.

State Minister along with President & CEO Ufone then visited the revamped Children Ward and Children OPD and cut the ribbon formally. Guests and the media were given a round of the revamped areas.

In the second phase of this CSR Initiative, Ufone will help upgrading the health facilities at District Headquarter Hospital, Vihari.

Government Takes Back 20 Paisas Per SMS FED Order

Recently, Government of Pakistan decided to impose Federal Excise Duty (FED) of 20 Paisas per SMS effective from July 1, 2009 and it was a shocking news for most of the Pakistani people as SMS was the only inexpensive way of communicating either between friends, relatives, colleagues, or family. BUT today things change and according to Hina Rabbani Khar, who is State Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, the Government and has decided to take back the extra FED on every SMS.

The decision of imposing a Tax of 20 Paisas/per SMS could bring some big trouble to Pakistan Telecom Industry and this would have decreased the revenue of Telecom Companies and ultimately less Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Thank God, some of our Leaders still got a brain in their heads.

PTCL Wireless Broadband EVO Now in USB Device – Just Plug & Play!

Its been a while when PTCL took the initiative to provide High Speed Wireless Internet but the problem in start was the PCMCIA Device which usually did not fit all computers and Laptops. Latest laptops do not even come with PCMCIA Slot. PTCL has been talking about the USB Device to eliminate the difficulty faced by its customers who can not or do not have PCMCIA slots. But there was a delay in the launch of USB Device.

Finally, USB Device is out and being a user of PCMCIA slot device, I am not happy because I can not move my device from my computer. Its kind of fixed in there . But the good news is, most of the people now can enjoy high speed internet for very reasonable charges. Some people argues about the speed of PTCL wiress broadband but I do not completely agree. Yes, there have been some speed breakdowns lately but a lot of things depend when it comes to wirless world i.e. Poor weather, weak signal in your room, etc. etc.

At my home, downloading speed doesn’t cross 160 KBPS but at my office, I enjoy 350+ KBPS downloading speed. That’s what written on PTCL Website now (300-500 KBPS). At start they claimed that the downloading speed will be between 400-700 KBPS but the experience was bit different. Anyways, I am still happy with the device as I can enjoy high speed Internet anywhere in my city at low cost.

Poor Friendly Budget!!! 20 Paisas FED Per SMS

The elected government has posted a huge tax gift of 20paisas per SMS to those who are frequently consuming this ever cheapest offer by the Telecom companies operating in Pakistan. Finance Adviser, in his post budget press conference commented that the government can not leave the bulk SMS, and finally they have snatched away the softest and inexpensive way of connection with their friends and family members of many consumers. Who says that the budget is poor friendly?

Even having a watchdog for Telecom Operators working in Pakistan, the tradition to capture and cheat the national market through ambiguous advertisements is still on. The operators are trying their all-time best to capture the major chunk of the market and survive through this cut throat competition even at the cost of misinformation.

The recent example is “Zong Super Free Number” for which they claim to talk heart out for just 16 every day. The inside story is some what contradictory to their claim. They are deducting a handsome amount on monthly basis which is against their claim. Another interesting thing to share is that the subscriber is bound to pay Rs. 16 per day (as claim) even if the subscriber doesn’t talk to that one super free number for any reason on any particular day.
